Long swim/Short run

Normally I head to the Andover Y for the morning swim, but today I headed down to the Beverly Y. I knew the rest of the group was showing up at 7 so I got there and 6 and put it some yards before the rest of the group showed up. Melinda put up a workout on the board and we ended up adding another 2500 on to the 3000 I did early. Then it was out for a short run. I’ll post the Garmin activity when I get home later. Below is the swim workout.

3000 warmup
600 – 300 swim, 200 pull, 100 kick
300 – 4×75 swim/drill/kick
800 – 4x 200 Negative Splits
600 – 6×100 descending 1-3 4-6
150 – 3×50 descending
100 – 4×25 on 30
Total: 5500 yards

Made it before the rain

I was fortunate enough to get out for my run this morning before the rain came. I think I was a little over dressed this morning, when I started out it was 30 degrees, but by the end of the run it was closer to 40. I tried to maintain a nice even pace today and not push too hard, wanted to let my legs recover.

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate

Today was the long endurance ride and it seemed to take forever! I realized early on that it wasn’t going to be a good ride, you can just feel it in your legs. I really need to drink more water after yesterdays 10 mile run, it makes a huge difference. Once you get dehydrated it is very difficult to recover, I drank 3 water bottles during the ride but still ended up weighing 4lbs less than yesterday. I’m trying to lose weight, but not all in one day!!!! I’ll be sure to drink more next saturday after my run to be better prepared for the long ride. I was supposed to do 3 hours 15 minutes but ended up just doing 3 hours followed by a 2 mile run. I actually felt ok during the run, even though it was pretty short.

Long run outside

Along with training for the Ironman I have a half-marathon coming up in a couple of weeks. Since I have only been running once a week, I thought it about time to start upping the mileage. So this afternoon I went out for a 10 mile run, well, almost 10 miles. The first couple of miles were a little rough, but then I kind of got in a groove. From mile 4 on I was able to keep the pace under 8 min miles and I was pretty happy about that for as little running as I have been doing. If I can get out for 10 the next couple of weekends with a long run on wednesday I should be in good shape for the half-marathon. Once the warmer weather comes and I can get out in the morning to swim I will be able to run after the swim and up the running time even more.

On the road again

Finally made it back outside for a run this morning. At 25 degrees it was a little bit chilly, but not too bad.  It was nice that it was actually light out while I was running, but I think the time is going to change again this weekend, so it will be back to the dark again. As long as the snow and ice stay away so I can stay outside.

Treadmill again

Another day on the treadmill, nothing really exciting to report. I spent an hour on it and did about 7.4 miles. My heart rate stayed around 145 for the run. One interesting thing I noticed was that when I walk to cool down my heart rate drops to about 105. That is about 15bpm less than it used to be when I would stop and walk after a run.

Yup, Treadmill again

Spent another hour on the treadmill this morning. I don’t know if there is anything more boring. Running on the treadmill for an hour feels like running outside for an hour and a half to me. There are four TVs on the wall where I run and the are tuned to all the various news stations. Unfortunately they all repeat the news every 10 minutes so I ended up watching everything 6 times!!!! I definitely have to get out on the road at some point this weekend. The Great Bay Half-marathon is coming up in early April so I have to start getting my long outside runs back in, hopefully we will get some warmer weather and melt some of the snow and ice on the sidewalks by the gym.

Vacation Day

I had the day off from work today and since Mackenzie didn’t have school I didn’t have to rush home to get her on the bus I had some extra time. I went to the Danvers Y this morning, and they open at 5:30 but the pool doesn’t open until 6:00. While I waited for the pool to open I headed down to the weight room and did some lifting. I think I need to head down there more often, I’m going to feel it tomorrow. Once the pool opened I did 3250 yards in about 50 minutes. I was the only one in the pool, I think because most people didn’t realize that St. John’s Prep is no longer using the pool until the fall. After the swim it was down to the treadmill, did I mention it was snowing out this morning? Anyway, did 5 miles on the treadmill and called it a day.

Another Dreadmill Session

Unfortunately the weather is not cooperating enough to get out in the morning for an early run yet, so it was back on the treadmill. I was on it for an hour today, might be a record for me. The weather is looking good for the rest of the week though, so hopefully there will be plenty of melting and I’ll be able to get out on the weekend.

Outside Run

Finally made it back outside for a run. It wasn’t a very long one, but it was nice to get out there. I did have a little problem with my Garmin watch. I started it like I normally do and thought it acquired the satellites, it didn’t. A mile into the run I was waiting for the watch to beep, I look down and there is no distance! So I stopped and fixed the GPS and now I have two recordings for the run. The first is just my heart rate over time, I could use that on the treadmill. The next recording is the next 5 miles. I felt pretty good and did negative splits from 8 min/miles down to 7:30 min/miles over those 5 miles.
